International Expansion Guidelines - Visa has recently started enforcing the rules and shutting down and fining ISOs that are operating against local card association and bank regulations. It was decided that ATMIA needed to provide its members who are evaluating the opportunity of expanding their businesses into Latin America with the basics regarding what they must do in order to properly plan and implement an international expansion plan. While the document will provide basic information, it will not be a complete guide as each country has its own regulations and laws that cover the processing of financial transactions as well as ATM operations. This white paper will be available to members by the middle of July 2008.
Diebold to expand, enhance ATM, security presence in Central America - Diebold Inc. says it expects to sign a deal with General Business Machines to form a direct operation that will offer Diebold solutions to customers in Central America and the Caribbean. Read More
Chilean bank to double ATM network with off-premises placements - The Chilean unit of Spain's BBVA says it plans to double its ATM network to 400 machines over the next several months, thanks to an ATM placement deal with pharmacy chain Farmacias Ahumada. Beginning in 2008, BBVA customers are expected to have access to an increased number of self-service terminals, said Ignacio Lacasta, BBVA Chile’s chief executive. Banks in Chile are increasingly turning to mass-channel distribution partners, such as pharmacy chains, retailers and supermarkets, to take advantage of potential financial synergies. Read More
Stratus Mexico upgrades ATMs with INETCO BankLink - When Stratus Mexico, a Latin American bank, needed to update its ATM architecture, it used INETCO Systems Ltd.'s communications-gateway structure. INETCO provided protocol conversion, transaction aggregation, multiple host support and extensive network management capabilities through its new BankLink solution. Read More
